Originally Danewood Press was set up after the Second World War by Don Stepney in an out building behind the local forge in Danehill.
In the sixties the press moved to its present home at the Isle of Thorns in Chelwood Gate.
The original building was built as a slaughter house and after that it became a laundry for the local gentry.
In 1969 Ray Smith went in to partnership with Don and the business started to grow.
At that time they did a lot of work for the Wealden District Council and the local community.
